It’s the colour

There are two things that really motivate me to weave: my love of cloth and my love of colour.

When I was a teenager I used to do a lot of dressmaking with remnants and cast-off clothes, but the biggest project I undertook was making a gown to wear to a university ball. My mother bought me the fabric: ten yards of cobalt blue silk. The dress turned out well enough, but what I really remember is the luscious sight of all that shimmering silk before I had begun to cut into it.

Cloth and colour.
